A museum that offers an immersive art and technology experience is not only coming to Massachusetts for the first time this winter, it will also bring an internationally-recognized exhibition for the first time ever in the state.
WNDR Museum Boston, which already has locations in Seattle, San Diego and Chicago, is bringing a 360-degree video, light and sound installation to downtown Boston this winter called INSIDEOUT.
The multimedia exhibition was created by German artist, designer, curator and creative director Leigh Sachwitz, with sound design from award-winning composer, musician and producer Andi Toma.
“Leigh Sachwitz invites you to experience the rain drumming hard on the roof, watching through the window seeing dark clouds stacking up in the night sky,” the description of INSIDEOUT reads. “As the protecting walls disappear into the moonlight and the thunderstorm reaches its climax we feel naked — but purified by the light.”
INSIDEOUT was inspired by Sachwitz’s childhood in Scotland where she often experienced thunderstorms while spending time inside a Glasgow garden shed. In 1993, the Scottish native moved to Berlin in Germany where she received her architectural diploma from the Glasgow School of Art, according to her biography.
In 1998 the artist launched her own studio, flora&faunavisions (FFV), which has produced numerous immersive 360-degree projections including INSIDEOUT, during which the phases of Scottish weather can be experienced within 20 minutes.
The piece has been shown at Triennale der Photographie as part of “Olympus Photography Playground in Hamburdge” in Hamburg, Germany. It has also been featured at Vienna Design Week in Munich, Vienna in 2015 and at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
INSIDEOUT is just one of more than 20 exhibits that will be featured at this winter. Tickets for WNDR Boston will be available soon online.
